Established in 1999, the Boys & Girls Club of Winder-Barrow County has been in the forefront of youth development, working with local youth who need us most. Operating in a neighborhood-based facility designed exclusively for children and teens, the Club is available to all boys and girls ages 6 to 18 during the critical hours when school ends, during the summer, and most school holidays. For only $50 per school year, kids and teens are provided with programs and activities to help them achieve academic success, develop good character, and develop healthy lifestyles. The Club serves 100 to 125 members daily and has an annual membership of more than 300.
The Club's impact is pivotal to the success of Barrow County's teens and kids, as we instill confidence and character for youth to reach their fullest potential. What makes the Club successful is its system of both informal and formal guidance and learning activities. By building individual relationships with young people, professional staff are able to guide them toward positive behaviors and pursuits. Whether it’s building confidence by assigning members to greet people at the front desk, helping youth develop good character traits by modeling good behavior, or stressing the importance of teamwork and cooperation while playing basketball in the gym, staff and volunteers use informal guidance techniques on a daily basis for long term impact.
